Captain's Newsletter - 25 September 2022

This week we are all trying to get our heads around the sudden and quick death of our lovely smiley friend Marion.

On Tuesday 27th September it has been suggested that we flood the course with pink in Marion's memory. If you aren't going to be at Chesfield then honour Marion's memory wherever you may be. We will raise a toast to her in the clubhouse afterwards and those of us who can will toast her in her favourite tipple - lager.

The flags remain at half mast in her memory.

The funeral will be a while yet as there is to be a post mortem and an autopsy

RIP Marion

Wednesday 28th September 6.30 sees the inaugural meeting of the Chesfield Downs Ladies Book Club. Thanks to Pat Ward for organising this. I for one am really looking forward to discussing books with everyone.

Tuesday 15 November 7 pm Club AGM. All welcome

Hazel would like to let everyone know that due to family commitments Jackie S has reluctantly withdrawn from Vice Captaincy next year. Hazel is pleased to announce that Olive has agreed to be her Vice Captain for 2023.

Reminder that entry into a competition with food afterwards is one price whether or not you stay for the food. Withdrawal from the comp within the week means that we still have to pay for food so payment will not be refunded.

Captain's Newsletter - 18 September 2022

Happy Autumn

The weather has certainly turned autumnal, crisp mornings, and the ball definitely not running as it was.

Remember winter rules are now in place.

Saturday 17 September saw lots of members taking part in Captains' Day. A chilly shotgun start and a breezy finish. This did not deter the ladies team of Maggi, Paula, Jacqui Hard, and Wendy.

Looking good on the course and winning with a great score of 91 Points

and looking good off the course - that is not Wendy but John D Club captain!!!

Sarah also won Longest Drive for the ladies and it was a stonker! Ann Lawrence won nearest the pin in 2 with an Eagle finish! Hazel won nearest the Pin for ladies. Great work ladies

Please continue to submit General Play Cards. This gives a more accurate handicap as we start to experience winter golf.

Barnham Broom Weekend Away - list is now full but there is a reserve list. Sign Up in Ladies Locker Room

Please can you use ig messages to cancel golf as not everyone is on Golfing Fun. If you haven't used it before, the icon for this is on the top right of the ig home app.

When teeing off please wait until your allocated tee time. This prevents bunching up on later holes.

I have cleared the locker room of used clothes and equipment and will bring them out again at Winter Invitation. I hope I haven't cleared away anything belonging to someone that wasn't meant to be cleared away. Let me know

Captain's Newsletter - 11 September 2022

I am sure I speak for everyone when I express our condolences to the Royal Family on the death of Queen Elizabeth 11. Most of us have only known 1 Monarch in our life and I think she has been a great example to us all in her loyalty, her steadfastness, and let's not forget her sense of duty and humour. RIP

What is this green stuff on our fairways? It's a while since we have seen it. We all now need to change our games. Golf is an ever changing sport which keeps us on our toes.

Winter Rules are now in place with immediate effect. This means that -on closely mown areas - the ball can be lifted, cleaned and placed within six inches of where it came to rest, no nearer the hole. This will be especially welcome on the 14th fairway at the moment.

General Play Cards - please continue to submit these but no need to let Karen or Lin know if it is a Tuesday or Thursday. Cards may only be submitted for singles scores. Any team and match play scores are not acceptable even if the golfer completes each hole

Volunteers required for Ladies Rose Bowl Series Event at Brocket Hall from 22-25 September. Roles include starters, on course scoring, ball spotters, marshalling and walking carryboard for Sunday only.

We are very sad to be saying farewell to Vicky who is moving to the Cotswolds. This will bring her nearer to her family in Wales. We will miss your lovely smiley face and the Welsh lilt, but we hope that you will come to our ladies events whenever you can. There will always be plenty of people willing to offer you a bed.

I only played once in the Scratch Team and in those days you were given a shoe bag and a cap. My cap has been worn once, the shoe bag is still in its original packaging. If any member of the scratch team would like one or both please let me know. Willing to part with them for a donation to my Charity

The next Ladies Committee meeting is on Thursday 8 August. If you have any items you would like added to the agenda please let Olive know in writing. Do not add Conditions of Competitions re handicap differences as these will be looked at in detail at a separate meeting.

Don't forget to let Pat know if you would like to join the newly formed book club.

Did you know that you can look up your past games on England Golf? My graph would look very worrying if it was recording my blood pressure! You can also look up any other player at home or any other club. Grab a cuppa and have a play.

Did you know that Committee meetings are available on Chesfield Downs Website?

Hit the menu button, then information, committee meeting minutes. All committee meeting minutes are there- Club, Ladies, Men Seniors and Juniors.
