Update on Wendy's shirts - they have been left in the locker room and been reunited with their owner!

A huge thank you to Marica, Hilary and Louise for their amazing "posh tea parties". Everything was delicious and home made. They have swelled the coffers of the charity. Now it stands at just over £8000

By the time I write the next newsletter it will be September. It's very true what they say - the older you get the quicker time flies. Or is it because we are so busy?

Enjoy the extra holiday this weekend. Enjoy your golf next week however it goes. I have played very badly this week and both times put in General Play Cards and my handicap has gone up both times The only positive I took away from the game was - I topped up my tan!

Captain's Newsletter - 22 August 2022

Still waiting for a drop of rain in Shillington. When will this weather break. My water butts are empty and I feel guilty using the hose even though there is no ban in this area. When we are playing in our thermals in the winter we will look back fondly at this time

The ball is running even faster now on the course which means lots of handicap cuts. Please put in General Play Cards when you can. Stableford Eclectic is a good opportunity for this as long as you aren't holding up play. Please don't protect your handicap by not submitting cards - it isn't then a true reflection of your handicap

Some ladies found the ball running to their advantage on Thursday Hazel, Lynn C, Pat and Clare. all scored Eagles Well done ladies

Two ladies went one better and scored a hole in one - Pat and Linda B. Fantastic ladies

The committee is aware of the issue of high and low handicaps playing in the same competition and we are working hard to try and redress the balance. This of course can't happen overnight so please be patient.

Wendy left 3 tee shirts in the locker room and they have been taken - presumably someone thought they were for sale. If it was you please can you return them to Wendy. Thank you

If you would like to have a white sleeveless club t shirt please let me know. At the moment I don't have enough for an order.

17 September Captains Day. There are a few tee times left. This is a shotgun start with evening meal and entertainment Cost is £35 payable to your own section. Guests are encouraged for either golf or evening or both. Cost is the same for everyone Don't forget to let me have your menu choices and seating choices please.

22 September Autumn Meeting. Please let Ann Kane know if you are unable to play golf but would like to come for lunch only. Food is sausage and mash. Vegetarian option available

Looking ahead to 2023 a date for your diary

Captain's Newsletter - 15 August 2022

I DID IT and it was a fantastic experience

I will receive the official photos in a couple of weeks and will put them on the big tv in the conservatory at Autumn meeting

Thank you to everyone for your financial and moral support. With all the other fundraising events we have raised almost £7000. A great effort.

Now that I have come back to earth ( but luckily not with a bang!) I will get on with the newsletter!

Please continue to buy the second hand clothes in the locker room. Some clothes are hanging up and T shirts are in the grey wooden box. There are some good bargains. Pay to Just Giving page please

Boxes for corks and batteries have been moved to the back of the locker room under the black box

There are photos in the corridor leading to the ladies toilets. I will update after big events.

I have been asked by several ladies if we can have a club white sleeveless tee shirt. I think we need 6 before Barry can order. Please let me know if you are interested.

A reminder that there is no smoking on the course, I don't think we have any smokers in the section but just be mindful of this if you see others smoking.

A few changes:-

There will not be any hard copies of the minutes of committee meetings in the locker room after the AGM. The minutes can be found on Chesfield Downs web site. Click on menu, information, committee meeting minutes. Club Committee and all sections' minutes are on there

The ladies section will no longer accept cheques for payment. For every cheque paid in to the bank we have to pay 80p charges. If a lady cannot pay on line then please go to the bank and transfer the money to the ladies account.

Wednesday September 28th. The first date for the new book club, meeting at the club 6.30 for 7 pm start. Please let Pat know via ig if you would like to join.

Captain's Newsletter - 7 August 2022

Well how time flies. Here we are in August This time next week my Wing Walk will all be over. It's just hitting me now what I have let myself in for!

Several people have expressed an interest in coming to watch - Address is:-Damyns Hall Aerodrome Ltd, Aveley Rd Upminster RM14 2TN. My arrival time is 1.30 pm, however my flight time could be up to 3 hours later than that. It is also weather dependant but the forecast is looking good. Apparently there is a bar on site - which I will be hitting when it's all over!!!

Hopefully I will still be here to write about it next week!!

Thank you again to everyone who has donated. I have now raised more than £6000 for the hospital. Still room for more at the Justgiving page at the bottom of this  letter.

We had a fantastic day at Lakeside Lodge Pidley on Thursday for the Kelland Pairs Trophy. A big thank you to Hazel who organised the whole day. The course was longer than Chesfield but thoroughly enjoyable. Weather was perfect. Company as always was a pleasure. Food was amazing.

Well done to the successful ladies:-

Nearest the Pin for Handicaps 25 and under Marica, over 25 Alayne

Longest Drive for Handicaps 25 and under Annette G, Over Handicap 25 Sangeeta

2nd Place in competition  Nicola A ( last year's winner) and Alayne  49 points

1st Place Julie R and Jacqui Hard with a staggering 50 points

Well done ladies

There was an extra trophy this year - Kathy's Katastrophe

You may remember that last year I broke the Kelland Trophy. I managed to salvage a small glass ball and had it mounted. It seemed appropriate that this should be presented to the individual/pair who were basically plonkers of the day.

The clear winners for this were Rogie and Mandy. One of their balls went "in the lake". They could see it so made a human chain to try and retrieve it. One tried in front then the other. After a few minutes they realised that in fact "the lake" was green and in fact terra firma!!!! They walked up to to and retrieved. it. Plonkers of the day!

More photos coming up on photo board in locker room corridor  Thank you to Jackie R for the photo collage

Reminder to please rake bunkers after use. I know we all do but some other sections don't so a general reminder has been requested by JonJo

There will be a committee meeting on Thursday 11th August. If you have any items for the agenda please let Olive know in writing

Please continue to enter General Play Cards. Tuesdays Eclectic Competitions are an ideal opportunity for this. Don't forget to let Karen know before the start of your round.
