Captain's Newsletter - 25 April 2021

Another sunshine week of golf. One of our ladies celebrated her birthday in style on Thursday, Happy Birthday Nicola!

Congratulations go to Kathy D, Linda A, Mandy U and Denise C winners of the O’Sullivan Cup. Well done ladies!

Friendly Match

Friday saw Chesfield Ladies in action for the first friendly match of the season, Chesfield Downs v Pavenham Park at home. Some great scores, and some very close matches but it was not to be our day, we were overcome by the very strong Pavenham Park team. It was however, a very enjoyable occasion, and great to be back playing against other clubs.

Well done Chesfield Ladies good effort.

Maureen Eastwood Salver - Ladies with handicap allowance of 30 or more

Captain's Newsletter - 18 April 2021

Maria Moore Millennium Bowl

Price Vase

Winner - Paula Moore coming in with an amazing 43 points
Runner up - Nicola Adkins, 42 points

Congratulations also go Linda A who chipped in from off the green on the 6th to score a fabulous Par!

Upcoming Competitions

  • Thursday 22nd April - O'Sullivan Cup Team Alliance, 85% of Course HDC (to calculate 85% - COURSE HDC x 85%)
  • First Friendly Match of the season Friday 23rd April, Chesfield Downs v Pavenham Park at home, good luck ladies!
  • Sunday 25th April -  Ann Warner/Maureen Eastwood Trophy Qualifier (Alternative Day)

World Handicap System

Can I remind ladies to check their HDC before playing as we get used to the new system. Handicaps are recalculated every night even if the competition has not been closed, therefore it seems handicaps are changing rapidly.

Score Cards

Since we have had such a long break, and are now facing many changes with the WHS it seems a few of us (including me) are not filling in our score cards correctly. Therefore, to ensure you do not get a DQ please follow these instructions. All sections of card must be filled in with:
  • The competition & date
  • Tee time
  • Course Handicap, Handicap Index, Playing Handicap (all 3 must be on card) for marker and golfer
  • Golfer goes in A
  • Marker goes in D
  • Score must be written in the box at the bottom of the card
Writing on card should be legible.

Upload the card when prompted (not beforehand) making sure the whole card is visible
When you upload the card you are prompted for a name, that will be the person you are marking for (A)

Jacky has kindly filled out the ideal scorecard. Please click on the link below to view it.

Your co-operation will be gratefully appreciated.

Enjoy your golfing week!

Captain's Newsletter - 11 April 2021

A cold but nice golfing week. We went from sunshine to snow in a day! It looks like the weather was kinder today for those playing in the ‘Price Vase alternative Day’. Good luck ladies. Well done to Jacqui H who came 4th in the 'Mixed Roger Burman Warm up Trophy' on Saturday, with an amazing 37 points. Well done Jacqui.

We had our first competition of the season on Thursday, battling through the wind and cold. Unfortunately, a problem with IG stopped us posting the results. As clubs come out of hibernation, there have been lots of requests/queries come through to the IG support team, therefore, the results will be available as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Tuesday 13th April sees our first Captains Shuffle. The Kay Baker Memorial Bowl. To find out your 9 hole COURSE handicap for this competition go to:
  1. IG App on your phone
  2. Select handicap record (flag on right)
  3. Calculator at top right hand side of screen
  4. Scroll down to Chesfield Downs front nine (red)
  5. Select COURSE Handicap

Those of you who wish to carry on to do 18 holes, please remember to WhatsApp your 9 hole score card to Hazel.

General Information

It is with sadness that I have to say Joan W is hanging up her golf shoes. We will miss you Joan, but hopefully once restrictions are lifted we will see you at the club for coffee and joining us for lunch at a few of our functions throughout the year.

Kathy C, Lin G and myself met with Craig Kearney - Golf Operations Manager on Thursday. Craig has recently joined the team at Chesfield Downs. Craig has a vast amount of experience and will be an asset to the club. We look forward to working with him.

The minutes from the ladies' section committee meeting held on March 25th via Zoom are now available to read on the ladies website. To view the minutes go to the website below and click on the tab 'About Us' (minutes are also, available via IG). https://www.chesfielddownsladies.co.uk/

IG Scoring-New Features

I have been asked to remind ladies of the difference between NR and NS.

No Return (NR)
  • Basically the same as pre WHS
  • Add this if you pick up when you have played too many shots to gain a stableford score or medal (5 over par)
  • You will then receive the equivalent of a double nett bogey on that hole

Not Started (NS)
  • NS is a new feature on IG
  • When you have completed 10 or more holes a round can still be eligible for handicapping purposes
  • If you only manage to play 10 or more holes and are unable to complete your round due to the following reasons; Course closed due to adverse weather, bad light, holes no longer in play, you can still submit your round by marking those holes not played with NS.

NS should only be used when you have been unable to start a hole or complete your round for the above reasons. When you put this on your score sheet, and depending on when your round was stopped, IG will automatically calculate your final score. If you decide to come off the course for any other particular reason, you should enter NR, you will then automatically be given a double nett bogey for any holes you have not played.

See you on the course.

Captain's Newsletter - 3 April 2021

Happy Easter!

Hope you have all had lots of chocolate! Well its been a great golf week. It was amazing to see all the ladies in their bright colours on such a beautiful sunny Tuesday last week. Chesfield Downs looked in fantastic condition, many thanks to Lee and his team for all their hard work.

Caroline really enjoyed her special birthday!
(how come I wasn't in that group?).

Finally we get to start our playing season

We will see the return of competitive golf on Thursday 8th April with the Maria Moore Millennium Pairs Betterball.

Our first Stableford qualifier the 'Price Vase' Alternative day is on Sunday 11th April. We will be playing off our new World Handicap System (playing handicap 95%). Main day for this event is on Thursday 15th April. Remember to sign in on IG, 7 days prior to playing.

Tuesday 13th April we have the Kay Baker 9 hole Memorial Bowl. If you have not put your name down for the 'Captains shuffle' and want to play in this event please email me asap. Following your round;
  • Photograph your score card
  • WhatsApp it to Hazel
  • No need to sign cards, just agree your score with your playing partners
  • We are playing off the COURSE handicap (for 9 holes half your course hdc and round up)

Good luck and enjoy this very special competition in memory of our much loved Kay. Kay’s brother Kevin will announce the winner at a presentation later in the year, date TBC.

Tuesday Captain Shuffles

Captains shuffles will be every Tuesday until block bookings are reinstated. I will send out an email each week, if you would like to play please reply by return with just a yes/no. Your rapid response is appreciated and makes organising the shuffle very straight forward. The player who's name is in the first slot is responsible to book the tee time for the four players.

See you on the course.
