Captain's Newsletter - 19 December 2021

What a year! I can't believe this is my last newsletter! Sundays will never be the same, I guess I will have to make the dinner once more instead of saying 'just off to do my newsletter' Its been a great year, I have more than enjoyed being lady captain in such a supportive ladies section. The generosity from you guys has been outstanding and I thank each and every one of you for all your donations to our charity this year. As in the words of Tina Turner 'You're Simply the Best'

Christmas Jumper Greensomes - 9 Hole Competition Thursday 16th December

40 ladies dressed in reds, greens, glitter and tinsel jumpers adorned the course. Once again the golf god was with us and made sure weather conditions were mild. Mince pies and mulled wine were on the menu, courtesy of the 'Club Company', and very nice it was too!

Congratulations go to:
  • Winners: Jacqui H and Linda A with 20 points
  • Runners-up; Rogie and Julie P

Nearest the Santa on the 3rd hole
  • Kathy D

Nearest the Elf on the 9th hole
  • Julie P

Birdie Badges were also awarded from the season, well done ladies!

The most enjoyable part of being the Lady Captain is to have the honour of presenting a cheque to the charity of her choice. So it was with enormous pride I had the privilege, on behalf of the section, of presenting a huge cheque for £11,241.98 to the Lister Hospital. A moment I will never forget, many thanks ladies for making this possible.

Christmas Party Night

Thursday saw some of our ladies at the Christmas Party. Although we missed those who could not attend we made a special ladies corner - felt just like the old days when we danced around our handbags!

General Information

Next week we continue to have some fun competitions all available to book in via IG.

Captain's Newsletter - 12 December 2021

Tuesday saw a bitter wind howling with the threat of rain at any minute. Many thanks to Helen who kindly donated the prizes for the day. Congratulations go to our winning team:

Christmas Jumper Greensomes - 9 Hole Competition: Thursday 16th December

Hope you have all got your Christmas shopping under control and are looking forward to 'Christmas Jumper Greensomes' as much as I am.

  • Both players tee off, the best tee shot is selected (not necessarily the longest drive)
  • Alternative shots are taken to the conclusion of the hole
  • Handicap allowance: 60% of lowest course handicap and 40% of highest course handicap added together
  • Cards will be filled in and available for the off (in the bar area) - Thanks Hazel!

Following your round come and enjoy some fun! A mince pie and mulled wine in the conservatory (approximately 1.30pm). We will also be presenting:
  • Winners of the day!!!

General Information

We have been made aware of an email from England Golf sent recently regarding general play score; pre-registering a score and penalties for non-completion of rounds.

The contents of the email do not alter how general play scores are managed at present, the message remains the same; but it addresses the problem of how to manage golfers who are starting but not completing their rounds.

The IG app will release a new update version (2.3.7) which will include a forced time delay from starting to finalising a general play score. This will be one hour for 9 holes and two hours for 18 holes. It will also check that a pre registered round is entered. This release is planned for next week; however, we are awaiting a news article to let us know when the new version is available.

Due to internet connections at the club not always allowing us to register our general play scored prior to the round I would like to recommend before you play you inform either:

  • Karen M - Handicap Secretary
  • Lin G - Competitions Secretary

If you are genuinely unable to complete your pre-registered round due to e.g. weather, injury can you also inform the above.

By letting Karen or Lin know, they can make sure your pre registered score has been accepted/deleted and therefore you will avoid the penalty set by England Golf. (A WhatsApp or text is sufficient).

You must always register your intent to enter a general score card before play. Registering after a round has been completed is not permitted and will incur the same penalty as a non completed round.

Christmas Party Evening 16th December 2021

This year the Christmas party will not be as we would have liked due to Covid 19. Unfortunately some ladies will not be attending and I fully understand their reasoning. For those of you who still wish to come I just wanted to reassure you that I have requested the tables at far end of the conservatory where we can have the windows open for ventilation (make sure you have a warm top). Maybe even start a new trend of dancing at your table, although I have seen some ladies on the table!!! Should be a good night!

Club Captain: Our club captain Margaret enjoyed a glass of fizz for a special birthday celebration last Monday! Happy Birthday Margaret! What a lovely day!

Annual £10 Fee: It has been decided by the ladies committee to waiver the annual £10 fee again this year as the ladies section has enough funds at present, this will remain under review over the year and ladies will be notified if any changes are required. However, the £10 joining fee still remains as a one off payment for all new members.

Winter Rules: Pick and Place came into effect on Monday 18th October 2021.

Slow Play: There is a subtle difference between Slow Play & Bad Play! We can all have a day when we play a bad round, lose balls, bad shots etc. thats just how it goes sometimes and we all have to accept that is not slow play, we don’t mean to do it! But we can all avoid slow play by:

  • Teeing off at our correct tee time
  • Not chatting on the tee
  • Not marking our cards on the green
  • Not leaving our trollies in front of the green
  • Being ready for our next shot
  • Waving through players that are faster
  • Picking up when we cannot score

These are just a few of the things we can do to avoid slow play. Lets make winter golf more fun by avoiding slow play it’s getting so cold and wet out there! Many thanks.

Have a good week!
