Captain's Newsletter - 27 May 2018

Last week was a busy one with the weekend ladies playing early on Saturday and then watching the Royal Wedding at the club, hats and all! They played for the Spring Salver which was won by one of our newest members Caroline Kaswaurere. Well done!

We played another round in the summer Stableford on Tuesday, it was very windy!! And on Thursday the Ladies played their qualification round in the Ping Pairs. Virginia (who played an awesome round) and yours truly came out top but we will have to wait and see if we qualify for the next round in September.

Afterwards we celebrated Megan’s birthday with tea and cakes in the conservatory. Thank you Megan. It was a great opportunity to present Julie Retallick with the Price Vase that she scooped with 40 points and a handicap cut of 1.2 the previous week.

It’s still not too late to sign up for Charity Day, sponsor a hole or bid in the auction for the 4 ball vouchers. There will be lots more things to spend your money on on the day and preparations are going well....just got to order the weather!

Whilst on the subject of the charity, thanks to Tim for taking part in the Motorcycle Run in aid of the Air Ambulance. Over 600 bikes went from WGC via Chesfield Downs (I stood and waved them all through!) to North Weald Airfield. Tim raised £130 for the charity.

I am on my hols this week under canvas in Cornwall (taking an umbrella as well!) so have fun and enjoy the Coronation Foursomes and all your other golf this week. It’s a busy time in the season for all....good luck.

Captain's Newsletter - 21 May 2018

Hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the Royal celebrations, some good weather and some great golf.

I am very lucky to have enjoyed a few days of golf in Lincolnshire last week. It was good to catch up with Lizzie Cooke and played in the AM AM at her new club Spalding. I also had a go at North Shore GC in Skegness, very windy but lovely and finished the week with a round on the Hotchkin Course at the Home of England Golf Woodhall Spa. Thanks all for a great week.

Congratulations this week go to...

Hazel Brunnen who won the Midweek medal
Julie Retallick - who won the Price Vase this week
Rogie Taylor - who won her division in the Midweek medal
Nikki Brooke - who won the Weekend Medal
Lauren Pitcher - won her match in the De Paula Cup away at Old Ford Manor

Hopefully you have all signed up for Charity Day which is the next big event in our calendar on June 14th. I am looking forward to a great day and the donations have already started to flow in. Please settle up through the usual means for the day and if you make a donation separately then please mark it 'Donation'. Just helps Pat to sort it all out!

Good luck in the Ping Pairs on Thursday. Megan is providing cakes after golf that day as a celebration of her 'Big' birthday so don't rush off too quickly!

Captain's Newsletter - 14 May 2018

A week of great weather followed by slightly less than great weather this week, but nonetheless good for golf!

Congratulations go to the Mens Section who raised £6500 for Des's charity, The On Course Foundation. Great result guys...

Also over Bank Holiday weekend Nikki Brooke took top spot in the Ladies Weekend Medal with a nett 72, followed by Linda Brown and Julie P. Well done to all the weekend players. Yesterday we played for the Ken Bird Trophy v the Men, the Seniors and the Juniors. Results next week....!

Our Spring Meeting held on Thursday was great fun and Marica, Maggie, Jacqui H and Jill came out the winners in the Team Alliance event. This was followed by a lovely lunch and presentation of Cups, Trophies and Monthly medal and Stableford winners. The raffle raised around £200 for the Air Ambulance, so a big thanks to all who gave so generously and to our volunteers, staff and Management who helped to make it a memorable day.

Spring Meeting Winners

The next few weeks see our summer programme of events start to kick in and there is lots of golf to be played. This Thursday we are playing for the Price Vase and this is followed by the Ping Pairs on 24th May. These events and the Coronation Foursomes at the end of May are all on sign up on How did I do. For anyone not familiar with the process the competitions appear on the system 3 weeks before the playing date so sort your diaries and sign up early! If you have any problems please contact a member of the Committee.

Whilst on the subject of diaries there is a change of date for the Crown Champion of Champions. This is the final for all the club champions within the Crown Group and will be held on Sunday 9th Sept at Oak Park
The Friendly Team featuring 5 of our 7 day members played a match v Colmworth at home. It was the first time we had played Colmworth in this fixture and 4 of our Ladies were making their debuts for the Friendly Team, Nikki Brooke, Clare Breen, Jacqui Harbor and Annette Gillette. Well done ladies, sorry you didn’t get the win but hope you all enjoyed the game and are ready to play again!

As hopefully you are all aware my Captains Charity Day in aid of Essex and Herts Air Ambulance will be held on Thursday June 14th. This will be a pairs better ball competition and is open to members and guests, so please invite your golfing friends! The golf will be followed by a 2 course lunch and prize presentation. The initial sign up sheet will be up next week so find your partners and keep your eyes on the board for further info. There will be various fundraising stalls, raffles and other fun things to spend your money on on the day. If you are prepared to sponsor a hole I will also put a sheet up for that! As some of you will know we are also hoping that one of the helicopters will be landing on the golf range that day. We will be looking for volunteers to help us on the day so please keep your eyes on the board.

Enjoy the week ahead and Happy golfing.🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♀️

Captain's Newsletter - 7 May 2018

At last it feels a bit more like Spring and the balls are starting to fly and roll a bit further. In spite of everything the course is looking and playing really well. Thanks again to Andy and his team for getting us through.

Spring Meeting is on Thursday this week - the tee times are posted on the board. Please ensure you have settled up with Pat via the usual methods. £18 golfers. £16 lunch only. There will be presentations after lunch and a £1 raffle on the day in aid of the Air Ambulance.

The Pearson team had a fantastic win this week, thrashing Sandy Lodge 6-1. Its been a really challenging season but Megan has led the squad with a smile and all the games have been played with spirit and determination. In most cases the refreshments have been great too...well done everyone who represented Chesfield through the horrible elongated winter season.

The Scratch team went to West Herts last Sunday - it was freezing! Unfortunately we were beaten 4-1 but it is a lovely course and a great bunch of ladies. Next match is May 20th v Berkhamsted at home.

Big mention here for the winners of the Adult Par 3 comp in April were Jane Sparkes and Pam Blake - well done ladies...handicap cuts on the way...?

The Ken Bird Trophy match takes place on Sunday 13th May. In case you weren't aware this is a team match - each 4 ball team consisting of a member from each of the sections. Good luck to the following who will be representing the ladies - Pat, Sarah, Jacqui H, Lin, Caroline K and Annabel.

If you have any friends from other clubs who would like to play at Charity Day on June 14th then please invite them. It will be a pairs competition on the day with lunch afterwards and the usual fund raising stalls/raffles etc. I have a sheet with all the details for visitors so let me know if you need it.

Amanda Macknight has very kindly agreed to make up some lovely hampers for the Charity Day Hamper Raffle. The idea is to theme them, golf, gardens, food/drink, nice smellies... If you are able to donate a small item for any of these hampers then I will put a box in the changing room next week.

Our next 2 events are the Price Vase on May 17th (rearranged from March) and the Ping Pairs on May 24th. Both of these are on HDID for sign up now.

Also don't forget you can still play another round in the Aussie Spoons competition. There are a few ladies who wish to play another round and are looking for a different partner. Please contact Kathy Morris and she will sort out the pairings (kmm53@btinternet.com)

The summer knockouts have now started. Commiserations to those who had to play the prelim round and didn't make it through. Good luck to everyone else.
Have a great week, enjoy the weather and happy golfing...☀️
