Captain's Newsletter - 26 Feb 2018

Congratulations to all our winners in the Winter Eclectic! The full results are now on the notice board for those of you itching to find out where you finished!

Happy Birthday Angela and thanks for the lovely cakes. Enjoy the Cruise🚢 !

Tuesday
The course was closed due to heavy rain. Thanks to the guys at the club who allowed us to have a play on the Skytrak where we played a NTP competition. The weather was lovely on the hole we played and well done to Mandy who got closest!

Thursday
This year we managed to play 18 holes in the Megan Bonner Par 3 competition although it was very cold. The winners will be announced at the Spring Meeting.

And in other news...

Jo Wilson has been keeping it a secret but for the 2nd year running she has won the Stella Frogley Memorial Final. Checkout the link and brilliant result Jo!

Don't forget to sign up for the Australian Spoons on Tuesday March 13th. It is now on HDID as is the sign up for the O'Sullivan Cup.

The Pearson season gets back under way this week. Good luck to all the team in their away fixture at the tricky Sandy Lodge ( clue is in the name!)

Many congratulations too go to Virginia (and the rest of us as we are the content!) as the Ladies Website has attained a top 30 position in a national competition. Although we weren't aware that we had entered, keep your eye on the website for the details! I think we all know what a great site it is and so well put together and updated by Virginia.

Finally, and hot off the press we played the 2017 edition of the Ladies v Men match on Saturday. The girls all played fantastic golf and all the matches were close, but the Men came out 3.5 to 1.5 winners. Jackie and Craig both played(last years Captains) and made the speeches and presentation afterwards.

I am off to get some warm weather training in so have a good week and good luck in the Price Vase on Thursday! 😎

As I write this the sun is at last shining for more than 5 seconds – hopefully we are now coming out of winter and some sunshine will help dry out the course. Who knows in 2 months time we will be bouncing our shots over the back of the greens as the ground is so dry - Golf in Britain!!

The final round of the Winter Eclectic went ahead without holes 6 and 7. Unfortunately we would have played those holes from a pond so apologies to those who were relying on improving on those holes last week. That'll teach us to leave it to the last minute! The winners of both divisions will be honoured on Thursday after the Megan Bonner Par 3. This competition is now full so please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to play.

Tuesday – 5 clubs and a putter. On another very cold and wet day we played 9 holes and Lesley came out the winner with Julie R a close runner up. Well done all for perseverance!

The Ladies v Men match – held over from 2017 takes place on Saturday 24th February. Thanks to all for signing up – it is always a difficult one to win but good luck everyone and lets show them what we can do...

On TUESDAY March 13th there is a new competition in our calendar - the England Golf Australian Spoons. This is a Pairs competition with a chance of progressing to a regional final later in the year. All the rules and details are on the board but in order to enter the competition you will need to sign up on HDID. Any questions please speak to Pauline Humphrey.

Look forward to seeing you all on Thursday - 9.30 Shotgun start, don't be late! All the reserves have now been allocated a space....good luck everyone

Here's to Spring ⛳️⛳️⛳️

With just under 3 weeks to go until the beginning of our season (although most of us are and have been playing the winter season...) the first qualifier and trophy sign up is now on the system – this is the Price Vase on Thursday March 1st. Let's hope that perhaps it will be a little warmer by then...

On the subject of warmer times (hopefully!) we will be off to the Bedford Golf Club for my Captains Away Day on August 2nd to play for the Kelland Pairs Trophy. Thanks to Margaret who has organised this and she and I played there last month to suss it out. The verdict was great course, good service, good food and facilities. Please sign up on the board initially and Margaret will keep us up to date with info and payment details.

Tuesday
The Team Stableford Alliance was won by Hazel, Lesley, Julie R and Anne, the Runners Up were Kathy D, Katy, Vicky and Lauren, 2 formidable teams! Well done all.

Thursday
The Winter Eclectic has only one round left to go and the competition is reaching its zenith! Get those shots off on Thursday and who knows who can rise to the top. I think it has been great fun and is always popular. There WILL be a leaderboard up so you can see what you need to do...good luck!

Virginia and Susanna will be representing us in the next round of the Daily Mail Foursomes. They have a tricky match away at Letchworth so good luck to them both.

If you still owe your £5 subs for the year please settle up with Pat via the usual methods.

I hope that all our ladies in far flung places this month are having a great time and enjoying a better climate than we are!!

Keep warm, and dry...again!

Captain's Newsletter - 4 Feb 2018

Another week of mixed weather but at least we are now out of January and the days are starting to get just a tiny bit longer. More daylight = More golf!

The sign up sheet for the Megan Bonner Par 3 is now up so please get your names up. Thursday 22nd Feb, shotgun start at 9.30, light refreshments afterwards with prize presentation for the Winter Eclectic.

Tuesday
A Novelty Stableford (rules perhaps need a little clarification for next time but it was fun!!) the Winner on her return from Florida was Kathy Dale and Mandy Unger was the Runner up. Obviously these ladies were best at kicking and throwing!

Thursday
Winter Eclectic Round 5. Hopefully with 2 more rounds to go we still have room for improvement...don't leave it too late to go low!

Chesfield Ladies are becoming a force to be reckoned with individual and team golf and in order to raise our profile further it is a perfect time of year to think about entering a couple of County Competitions for those of a competitive nature. It would be fantastic to see some of you taking part - great way of playing some different courses and making new aquaintances. Details as follows

De Paula Cup - this is a scratch singles KO competition for handicappers from 12.5 - 20.4 (as at 19 March 2018) The KO matches take place over the summer months with competitors arranging their own matches for the first 3 rounds. Please see the HCLGA website for entry forms and details or speak to Jackie Reid.

Powell Cup - this is a Foursomes Scratch KO Cup. Details are again on the website but please see Kathy Dale who will be coordinating this one.

Thanks to those who came to the Porters Park Coffee Morning. All your tickets were entered into the 4 ball raffle but we had only one winner - congratulations to Di Rogers who won a 4 ball at Dyrham Park which is near Barnet and I believe it is a lovely course! Well done Di, and sorry everyone else! Money raised all went towards promoting and running Junior golf in the County.

Good luck this week⛳️
