Captain's Newsletter - 26 Jun 2017

Club Championship
The heat abated as the wind took over and one flash of lightening started off the first round of the 2017 Club Championships.  Mixed feelings as the 27 players returned their scores. One hole can appear to blow the round, but we shall see. Full analysis of score, as usual, on HDID. The order of play for round 2 is also on HDID.

The winners will be presented with their trophies in the conservatory after the round. Tea and scones will also be served.

We will also be saying goodbye to Liz Cooke who is leaving us for the banks of the River Welland in South Holland. Everyone welcome (please let Sarah know by Monday if you are coming along so we can bake enough).

All to play for - good luck everyone.

Friendly Match v John O'Gaunt

The heat tried but did not get the better of the friendly team on Wednesday when they had a resounding victory over the ladies of John O'Gaunt. Score three and a half to a half. Fabulous win, well done to Liz Cooke, Lesley Bonser, Julie Retallick, Marica Kelland, Helen Leigh, Hazel Brunnen, Lin Goodey and Rogie Taylor.

Scratch Team
Good luck to the scratch team who are playing the return fixture against Brickendon Grange on Monday and then at home to West Herts on 2nd July.

Seniors Charity Day
On Wednesday this week. Still time to enter it is open to all. £25 to include lunch plenty of fun and games and a special silent auction. A week in a villa in sunny Florida, sleeps 6, plenty of golf courses to play in the area. Reserve set at only £250, auction will end 31st July. Please contact Brian Feaver (07792793246) asap if you wish to play or to place a bid.

Social Events
Barry and his team are looking to reintroduce more social events at the club, which is great.  Three events are already planned:

Sat 1st July - strap yourself into the cock pit as Maverick takes you to heaven and back in TOP GUN
Sat 7th July - Abba tribute, Mamma Mia
Fri 28th July - Murder Mystery Evening - Are you a Sherlock, a Poirot or a Miss Marple?

Please support our fantastic club. Any ideas for future events will be most welcome by Naomi, our Events Manager

Golf Results
Weekend - Monthly stableford qualifier was won by Lin Goodey with 32 points, pipping Kathy Dale by a single point.

Tuesday - Some invaluable match play practice. A great opportunity to get out there with no pressure on and experience this format of golf, for some ladies for the first time. Well done to all who took part in the 30 degree plus temperature.

We return to average summer temperatures this week so get out and enjoy your golf. Could we ask for a little liquid sunshine during the night for the sake of the course. Good luck to all in round 2. I look forward to crowning the Club Champion on ThursdayšŸ¾
