Jubilee Jug

A fantastic day of golf, dressing up and afternoon tea on 20th April playing for the coveted Jubilee Jug.

A sea of purple, in every shade, took on the course and at times the inclement weather in our annual Jubilee Jug. Not hindered by non golf apparel some fantastic scores were achieved and the final placings were only split by a couple of points.

Nearest the pin - Julie Retallick
Longest drive - Jodie Lusby
3rd place went to Rogie Taylor & Vicki Thompson
Runners up were Jackie Reid & Pam Blake

Winners - Jodie Lusby and Lesley Bonser

Over £260 was raised for the Willow Foundation. Thank you all for your support.

More photos are available on our Gallery page.

And in other news…………..

The Pearson team played their final match of the season in warm sunshine at the glorious location of Moor Park. On a very tricky course and super fast greens the team played their very best golf and as has been the case all season went all the way to the end.

Final score Moor Park 6 Chesfield 1. We take consolation in knowing we broke their 2 year unbeaten record in the home tie. They are a lovely group of ladies and will go on to win the league once again. Congratulations to them and to all who have represented Chesfield Downs Ladies this season.

Pink jumpers away until next season and blue t shirts out as we embark on our friendly fixtures. Good luck to the team for the first match away at Pavenham on Friday.

Spring Meeting (11th May) sign up is on the board. If you are unable to play then you are most welcome to join us for lunch.

Happy golfing

Pearson Team
On Wednesday the Pearson team travelled down the A1 to South Herts Golf Club at Totteridge. In beautiful conditions and with the temperature warming up as the day progressed we all enjoyed a great game of golf.

There were some very close matches and Liz Cooke even had to go down the 20th to reach a result. In the end we came second. Last match of the season is next week at Moor Park. Good luck team.

Blind pairs, so pot luck.  Winning pair out of the bag Hazel Brunnen and Mandy Unger. Runners up Lesley Bonser and Di Chapman. Hope they liked their Easter bunnies.

April stableford saw some cracking scores come in. Winner Div 1 with 42 points and knocking yet another shot off her handicap, Kathy Dale. Runner up and also going down one shot after scoring 40 points Pat Ward.

Winner Div 2 Jacqui Harbor with 37 points. Runner up with 35 points on countback from Megan Bonner and Lesley Bonser, Mary Harrison.

9 Hole Stableford winner with a superb 21 points was Lorraine Palmer. Runner up with 17 points was Pam Blake.

Fabulous golf ladies, deserving of handicap reductions.

Phew what a week, enjoy the Easter break.

Captain's Drive In 2017

A field of 132 were up bright and early for the shotgun 8.15am start for this years Captains Drive In. With temperatures into the 70's we all made it round in a very respectable four and a half hours.

Brian Feaver (replacing injured John Gresty) Craig Crowhurst and Dan Jordan needed a lie down by 17th as the heat was getting to them😎 We scored an acceptable 85 points.

Thank you to all involved in the organisation. To all my fellow Captains, to Annette for her administrative work leading up to the day and to Jackie Crabb for all her work on the day. We raised almost £400 for charity on the day to be shared between the sections.

Before tucking into pie and mash all the Captains proceeded to the first tee to take their drives. The combined distance was measured and the winner of the voucher was Jenny Feaver.

It was a very good day for the ladies section as the winning team with 95 points ( best 2 of 4 scores) comprised of Kathy Dale, Jodie Lusby, Linda Brown and just keeping them in check James Crabb (handicap now down to 3!!).

Sarah Faircliff picked up prizes for longest drive and nearest the pin. Hazel Brunnen pipped the Captain to nearest the pin in 2 on the 6th.

It was a fantastic day and I would like to thank the 16 ladies who competed.

Off the back of a fine win the Pearson Team travelled to beautiful Ashridge on Wednesday for the afternoon fixture. A delightful lunch set us up for the difficult course ahead. All the matches were close and well fought. Final score Ashridge 5 Chesfield 2. The penultimate match is against South Herts on 12th April

The draw for the Jubilee Jug is on the board. Please pay if you have not already done so by the usual methods.

Sign up sheet for the Spring Meeting will be on the board this week.

Nikki Brooke played to her new handicap in the Roger Burman Warm Up, finishing top of the ladies and 13th in a field of 109 players. Go Nikki.

Half & Half - Sue Oliva won the front 9 stroke play and Barbara Baldwin won the back 9 stableford. Lauren Pitcher was runner up on both.

Rewarding her excellent play Sue has had a 3 stroke handicap cut, on general play.

28 ladies entered the first qualifying medal round of the season and on one of the warmest days this year some great scores were returned.

Winning division 1 with a fabulous nett 70 was Kathy Dale. This round took Kathy down to 12.0, her lowest ever handicap. Well done Club Captain. Winning division 2 and also coming down 1 shot was Megan Bonner with a nett 71.

Winner of the 9 hole stableford qualifier was Pat Pollendine with 18 points.

Hope you all enjoyed watching The Masters and picked up some useful tips.

Pearson Team
Look at those smiles - and with good reason...
Pearson Team v Moor Park (Home)
Undefeated Moor Park ladies were the visitors to Chesfield on Wednesday as we resumed our Pearson challenge under the superb captaincy of Marica. I am delighted, nay, thrilled to announce that we won 6-1!!!!! What an amazing effort by ALL the team. Bring on Ashridge next Wednesday.

The Spring weather is bringing everyone out and tee times are filling up quickly. If all the slots are taken it is possible to make a four ball at the end. Please contact Lin Goodey if you wish to do this.

Jubilee Jug, 20th April
Please sign up by 6th April. The draw will then be made and emailed out on Friday 7th April giving you plenty of time to coordinate your purple outfit with your partner. Any ladies wishing to join us just for afternoon tea please contact Sarah.

New score cards have now been printed for 9 hole qualifiers. These will be kept in the locker room to avoid confusion at the desk.

Hertfordshire Captains & Vice Captains Fun Day
Sarah and I had the honour of playing with and meeting the Captains and Vices from 15 Hertforshire clubs at Verulum Golf Club on Friday. The company was good, the food was good the golf was…. golf. Over lunch we exchanged ideas and tips which was most enlightening.

Roz Mackenzie, a member at Chesfield for many years has decided because of work and distance away from the club not to rejoin. “ I have made friends for life through golf and will always think back to the fun and enjoyment I had with the Chessie ladies. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the generous ladies who supported my venture with Patti when we were raising funds for Women v Cancer”. Always welcome back Roz.

And finally the weeks results....

First weekend qualifier, March stableford saw Nikki Brooke score a whopping 43 points and get a well deserved handicap cut of 3 shots.

Round 1 of the Stableford League. Scores are available on our website under ‘Leaderboard’.

Shorts and tee shirts made an appearance in the Maria Moore Millenium Bowl as temperature hit the low 70’s ( in old money). Did the score reach that??? Find out at the Spring Meeting (11th May) when the trophy will be presented.

A quarter of the way through my Captaincy..... slow down time, it is going too fast. Thanks to all the lovely Chesfield Ladies I am enjoying every minute of it. Happy golfing.
