HOT OFF THE PRESS

Mary Hooper and Kathy Dale, winners of the Chesfield Downs qualifying round for the Women’s England Golf Trust competition, have qualified to play in the National Pairs Championship Final at King’s Norton Golf Club, Birmingham on 16th August. Fantastic!!

THIS WEEK

The Ricoh Women’s British Open will be held on the Marquess Course at Woburn Golf Club this week. Our own Nicola Adkins will be on the course marking and rubbing shoulders with the best women golfers in the world. Lucky lady!!

LAST WEEK

Julie Price celebrated her big birthday at the weekend, giving us cake after golf on Thursday. Although with parties and holidays planned and taken, I do think she is celebrating all year, not just one day! Enjoy your celebrations, Julie!!

We said a sad farewell to Patti Vincent who is moving away this week. We will all miss her and hope she enjoys her new home. Come back any time, Patti. We will welcome you on the golf course as often as you wish.

At the weekend the Junior Captain, James Crabb, held his Charity Golf Day in aid of On Course Foundation. 60 members from Chesfield Downs enjoyed the golf day in fabulous sunshine, raising lots of money to support injured service personnel through golf.

GOLF RESULTS 

7-Day

July weekend Stableford competition - 1st place Pat Ward, 2nd place Lin Goodey.

Tuesday

We played in Mediterranean temperatures of 31 degrees. Our umbrellas were needed – but just to create some shade! It was a great fun format - A Gift, A Wish & A Joker. This created some truly excellent scores. With a simply amazing 54 points Lesley Bonser was the winner by far. In 2nd place with a tremendous 45 points was Diane Chapman, closely followed in 3rd place with 42 points by Lin Goodey. Brilliant scores – really well done.

Thursday

An excellent result for Patti Vincent this week. Patti won Division One. Her 1st place with 36points beat Kathy Dale on countback – also on 36 points 3rd place goes to Jackie Reid on 32 points (on countback from Jean Ray also on 32 points).

Division 2 was won by Mary Harrison with 35 points. Closely followed in 2nd place by Diane Chapman on 34 points. 3rd place was won by Angela Hamilton on 32 points just beating Barbara Baldwin on countback. Very close scoring this week.

The 9-hole Stableford competition was won by Pam Blake with an excellent 17 points, followed by Ann Cullum 2nd on 14 points beating Kay Baker into 3rd place on countback.

Chesfield Downs Golf Club celebrates our 25 year anniversary

What a brilliant evening. 125 members, guests and VIPs enjoyed our 25th Anniversary party. We had a video clip from Ian Poulter and a speech from the course designer plus founder members, landowners, Maggs, Henry, Jim and Ed in attendance. Excellent food, the magician was amazing and the fun photo booth was just hilarious. A really wonderful event.

Thursday 21st July – Julie Price would be delighted if everyone can stay for cake after our golf competition to celebrate her birthday.

Saturday 23rd July - This weekend is the Charity Golf Day organised by the Junior Captain in aid of On Course Foundation, a charity which supports injured service personnel through golf. There are still a few tee times available for members and guests to join in and support the fundraising efforts of the Junior section. The sign up sheet is on the Social Notice Board.

Wednesday 10th August – Palmer Cup Ladies v Senior Men. We still need players for this match. If you would like to be in the ladies team, please sign up on the notice board.

REMEMBER In recent weeks we have had a few occasions when ladies have forgotten to pay their competition fee. Please can you ensure you remember to pay your £1 on a Tuesday and £2 on a Thursday. Thank you.

GOLF RESULTS
7-Day – This weekend saw the 3rd round of the weekend Eclectic. The results are on HowDidIDo.

Tuesday – This week’s format was Stableford best 3 scores per team. The winning team with 106 points were Barbara Baldwin, Dianne Rogers, Kathy Dale & Lesley Bonser.

Thursday – The winners of the Lorraine Palmer Betterball Cup are Mary Harrison and Maria Mouncher with 39 points. Just beating Sarah Faircliff & Lauren Pitcher into 2nd place also with 39 points.

Our Friendly Match at home against the lovely ladies from Heydon Grange this week resulted in an excellent (and very friendly) draw. Well done to all the team.

Top Of The League - Our Ladies Scratch Team are having an extremely successful season, winning 4 of their 5 matches so far. We are currently lying top of the league table, with just 3 matches to play. Good luck to Sarah and her team for their continuing success.

The Great Chesfield Downs Cake Off 2016, Wednesday 28th September 

After such a brilliant success in 2015, Jean Ray will be holding this excellent event to entice our taste buds and encourage those competitive male cake makers to get busy in the kitchen. Put this in your diary and enjoy some fantastic cake displays and of course… the tasting !

Thursday

Our July medal competition was played on greens which were lightning fast and caught a lot of us out this week! Well done to the greenkeepers for continuing to improve our greens and well done to all of those who got the speed of them before the 18th! The winners were:

9-Hole Stableford

We completely filled the 9 Hole Stableford tee slots with 8 players. This new competition has been very well supported this year. 1st place was Judi McMullen, 2nd Jane Sparkes and 3rd Pam Blake. Congratulations.

Scratch Match

Yet another win for our Scratch team this week. A 3:2 victory away at Harpenden Golf Club. A truly excellent result. Congratulations to all the team. We have now won 4 of our 5 matches this season. The team’s next match is at Mid Herts on Sunday 7th August. Good Luck to all.

Friendly Match

And more excellent winning news from our friendly match! 

Our Friendly Squad played their match at home against Mowsbury on Wednesday. It was a very well deserved win for Chesfield Ladies. It was a great day, the sun shone and the company was friendly with lots of laughs and an excellent winning score of 3 ½ : ½ . A fantastic result!!

Scratch Team v Harpenden B (Away)

Match day No 5 for the Scratch Team was on Monday 4th July, away at Harpenden. When they came to Chesfield last month we beat them fair and square and so they were looking for a bit of revenge on home soil!!

However, this was not to be and once again the girls from Chesfield read the greens, hit the fairways and came away with an excellent and closely fought win by 3 points to 2. Once again massive congratulations to our team, now FOUR wins from five!

Next is away to Mid Herts on Sunday August 7th. Bring it on….!

Club Champion - Virginia Chan

Our new 2016 Club Champions are: Virginia Chan and Kathy Morris

To rapturous applause and for the 3rd year in a row, our Club Champion for 2016 is Virginia Chan. With an excellent score of just 167 over 2 rounds, and only 1 over her handicap, Virginia was easily the winner this year.

The winner of the nett competition, the Angela Chatterton Cup, is a delighted Kathy Morris.

Virginia and Kathy will have their names added to the club Honours Board. Congratulations to them both. Our two Club Champions are now invited to play in the Crown Golf Champion of Champions Competition at Sherfield Oaks Golf Course on Saturday 10th September 2016.

GOLF RESULTS
7-Day – On Saturday we joined the men’s section to play in the mixed Denis Flyn Memorial competition. The winner was Tony Routledge with 39 points. Best placed golfer from our ladies section was Jackie Reid followed by Pat Ward.

Tuesday – American Foursomes. The winning pair this week with 33 points were Chris Leary and Julia Goodwin. In 2nd place were Diane Chapman and Brigid Kerr. Well done everyone.
