Friendly v John O'Gaunt (Away)

The Friendly Ladies Team traveled to John O'Gaunt on Wednesday 22nd June to play the 4th match of the season.

Despite the rain the team carried on regardless. John O'Gaunt is a very difficult course and the Chesfield Ladies coped very well with conditions. There were some very close matches, with Jackie and Margaret fighting it out to the bitter end and finishing all square! Lauren and myself won our match! But John O'Gaunt were on home ground and the final score was 3½ - 1½ in favour of John O'Gaunt.

Well done everybody! Next match is Mowsbery at home!

Good luck team!

Scratch Team v Aldwickbury Park B (Away)

The 4th Scratch Match was played at Aldwickbury Park on Sunday 19th June.

We had a strong team out in spite of it being Fathers Day – Virginia, Kathy, Sarah, Lauren and Liz and we were ready to tackle the tricky greens of Aldwickbury!

The bacon butties were great and the day was dry. Unfortunately we were unable to pull off a win on this occasion and conceded 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. The tea afterwards was spectacular, almost worth losing for…but not quite! We were treated to Lemon drizzle cake, raspberry sponge, strawberries and clotted cream! We deserved it!

There were some close results with one match coming down to the last putt on the 18th. Well done everyone and we will bounce back for our next match away to Harpenden on Monday 4th July.

Scratch Team v Harpenden (Home)

Match day 3 for the Scratch team was on Friday 10th June v Harpenden at home.

We were chasing a hat trick of wins to keep the season going! Harpenden had decided to forego the bacon butties before the match and boy did they live to regret that! Whatever is in that bacon bring it on!!

The team (Virginia, Kathy, Pat, Jackie and myself) pulled off our biggest win so far, a 4 1/2 points to 1/2 point win! There were excellent performances by all the team, wins from all except yours truly! However I have to report (as captain) that my match was very close all the way round but I was one down coming up the 18th. When I chipped my second shot in from the bunker for my 3rd birdie of the day, my opponent was less than happy! She missed her putt and we halved the match (please forgive the self indulgence!)

Well done everyone, a fantastic performance!

Our next match is on Sunday 19th June when we have to venture away from home to the tricky greens of Aldwickbury Park.

LADIES AWAY WEEKEND - At the excellent Marriot Forest of Arden

Fabulous 27 degree hot and sunny weather was such a fabulous contrast from the 12 degrees of a few days before. The tough Championship Arden course faced us on day one. Pairs betterball runners up were Pat Ward and Pauline Humphrey. The winners were our brilliant organisers - Jackie & Sarah.

Sarah Faircliff won the longest drive both days – absolutely huge drives (and on the fairway too, Sarah!) Nearest the pins were won by Hazel Brunnen and Brigid Kerr. Day two was individual Stableford, with Lauren Pitcher taking 1st place and Christine Newcombe in 2nd on countback from Patti Vincent and Kathy Dale. Lots of fun and laughter was had over the three days. Thank you to Sarah Faircliff and to Jackie Reid for arranging such a wonderful weekend. Everyone had a fantastic time and I am really looking forward to next year!

We all said our sad farewells to Brenda Harrington, who is moving to Shropshire. We will miss her smiling face, her thoughtfulness - and her joking comments.

GOLF RESULTS
Friendlies Team v Mill Green (Home)
"Was it really almost summer and June 1st?? It felt more like March 1st to the 16 brave souls from Chesfield Ladies and Mill Green, who battled it out on the greens last Wednesday. Was ' battled' the right word? The cold wind and rain drove furiously at them and whilst a win against Mill Green would have been great, it just wasn't to be! A halt was called to this friendly after 9 holes and the soaked and bedraggled ladies came inside to hair dryers and a warm drink. After 9 holes Mill Green were ahead 3:1, and this time we had to concede defeat. Next time, we promised ourselves, would be different???" - Margaret Gentle, Friendlies Team Captain

7-Day – 5 clubs and a putter was played on a very cold morning. The choice of clubs is crucial, but there are always a few occasions when you realise the club you need for the next shot is not one you have in your bag. 1st Kathy Dale 32pt, 2nd Lin Goodey 31pt, 3rd Lauren Pitcher 30pt

Thursday – An extremely windy and cold day made for tough conditions to play our midweek Medal competition.
Div 1 1st Emma Wood nett 75, 2nd Liz Cooke nett 76, 3rd Lauren Pitcher nett 77.
Div 2 1st Hazel Brunnen nett 75, 2nd Katy Cook nett 85, 3rd Nicola Adkins nett 86
9 Hole Stableford – 1st place Madeline Fielder, 2nd Maureen Martin
