Many ex Captains, staff and all our golf pros were there to celebrate and to take part in the fabulous farewell to our Course Manager, Ed O'Hanlan.

Very closely followed with 78 points by another Ladies Section team Amanda Macknight, Marica Kelland, Julie Price and Angela Hamilton. Plus Nearest the Pin on the 3rd was won by Jean Ray. Round 2 of the weekend Eclectic took place. Updated results can be seen on the HowDidIDo website. Pat Ward is currently ahead with a gross 82. With the rest of the field chasing her lead.

Double points if you tee off the Yellows. A tactical game. Angela Chatterton obviously had a good strategy as she scored an enormous 58 stableford points to take 1st place. Congratulations Angela and a brilliant par from the yellows on the 18th!

More good scores for 2nd place. With 54 points, Hazel Brunnen came in 2nd just beating Brigid Kerr into 3rd place on countback.

The Ping Pairs qualifying round was played at Chesfield this week. The winners are entered into the National Final events on either 5th or 6th September. Top 50 scores nationally will enter the Ping Grand Final on 6th September and the next 50 top scores will play in the Ping Plate Final on 5th September. Our excellent winners with an incredible 44 points are Rogie Taylor and Kathy Morris. Just beaten into 2nd place on countback, also with 44 points, are Margaret Fredjohn and Barbara Baldwin.

Captain's Newsletter - 14 May 2016

Sunday 8th May was an amazingly successful day for our Bridge Walkers. They have raised over £1000. Just brilliant!

“We had the perfect day for walking the bridges of London. I've seen things I've never seen before because I have not been sightseeing in London since I was a teenager!! We arrived at Battersea just before 10.30 then set off, Megan with map in hand - we followed! The weather was great, the company brilliant and we all really enjoyed the walk. We had three experienced London Bridge walkers with us who seemed to know where they were going!! We stopped at the London Eye for coffee and sandwich and sat in the sun for half an hour. We passed so many iconic buildings - Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, the London Eye & The Shard to name but a few. What a great way to see so much!! “ -  Rogie Taylor

Our Scratch Team are enjoying an unbeaten run with yet another win. This time we played at home against Aldwickbury Park. Congratulations to Sarah and her team – Marica, Liz, Emma Wood - who made her debut and earned her Scratch Cap and to Pat Ward, who scored 3 birdies in her winning match. Great result!

Sunday 8th May, Ken Bird Trophy – played by all four sections at Chesfield Downs. Everyone enjoyed the day, with a lot of camaraderie out there. A great result for the ladies team to beat the seniors and men’s section to come in 2nd place only to the Junior Team. Well done to Julie Price, Jackie Reid, Sue Brady, Patti Vincent, Roz Mackenzie and Lin Goodey

Ken Bird Trophy - Team Captains

Drizzly rain kept some ladies in the clubhouse, but we had four groups who played the 3-2-1 team format. The winning team scored 82 points. Congratulations to Margaret Fredjohn, Shirley White, Diane Rogers and Mary Hooper.

5th May gave us an opportunity to don our shorts and skorts for our midweek May Medal. Following her recent eagle, Chris Leary won Division 1 with a nett 76. Some brilliant scores came in Div 2. 1st Lin Goodey with a nett 67 2nd Mary Hooper nett 68 and 3rd Di Rogers nett 73 (CSS 74) – all three had a handicap cut. Well done Ladies.

Scratch Team v Aldwickbury Park (Home)

The 2nd Scratch Match was played at home on Sunday 8th May where we were hosts to Aldwickbury Park. Starting off with bacon butties and in complete contrast to the last match the forecast was for wall to wall sunshine and temps up into the high 70s. Proper Scratch golf weather!!

This time our line up consisted of Pat Ward, Marica Kelland, Liz Cooke, Sarah Faircliff and on debut Emma Wood. Congratulations to Emma on receiving her team cap and winning her match against a lower handicapper!

All the team contributed greatly to a 3-2 victory with wins for Pat , who scored 3 birdies, yes, 3 birdies in a row and completely overran her opponent!!! Liz was also a worthy winner!

Thanks go to all the team for another great performance. The next Scratch match is at home to Harpenden on Friday 10th June.

Captain's Newsletter - 4 May 2016

Sunday 8th May is a very busy day for Chesfield Downs Ladies Section. We have 3 exciting events taking place all at once.

  • The Ken Bird Trophy is being competed for. A battle between ladies, men, seniors and junior sections. 6 members of each golf section will play in mixed 4 balls with the aggregate of best 4 scores from each section deciding which section wins the coveted Ken Bird Trophy. Good luck to all the ladies in our team – Jackie Reid, Lin Goodey, Julie Price, Sue Brady, Patti Vincent and Roz Mackenzie.
  • Sarah Faircliff leads our Scratch team on their second match of the 2016 season. The match is at home against Aldwickbury Park. We are all willing you on to a second win of the season. Good luck to you all.
  • Meanwhile, ten ladies section members will be raising money for the Garden House Hospice by walking across 13 iconic bridges of London. They have raised a magnificent £600 so far. If you would like to sponsor them please visit the Just Giving page.

Monthly Stableford (23rd Apr) was won by Emma Wood with 32 points. The weekend May medal (1st May) was won by Megan Bonner with nett 74.

Weekend competitions are awarded points in the Weekend Order of Merit competition. Click here to see the latest standings (also found under the Leaderboard menu on our website).

I couldn’t believe the weather! Strong winds, sleet and then hailstones covered the course. Especially as I was “suffering” in 23 degree heat in sunny Gran Canaria. Bring on the summer... SOON ! I cannot believe you played at all, but you are a hardy bunch. Well done to anyone who played.

Results for Round 2 of the Stableford League are: Div 1 – Patti Vincent with 33 points. Div 2 Helen Leigh with 30 points and Div 3 Jenny Feaver with 33 points. Amazing scores in dreadful weather!

Hot on the heels of her recent Jubilee Jug win, the Ann Warner Trophy for players with handicaps of 29 or less was won by Hazel Brunnen with a score of 38 points. Congratulations on a well-deserved handicap cut too. The Maureen Eastwood Trophy for players with handicaps of 30 or more was won for the second successive year by Katy Cook with 33 points. A brilliant achievement.
