Captain's Log - 23 July 2015

As a follow up to Charity Day I thought you might be interested to learn how some of the money was raised. The total raised so far is now more than £4,000.

  • Hole Sponsorship and other donations raised almost £1,500. We have some very generous members.
  • The Golden Raffle, helped by some wonderful gifts, including the very popular Tea for Two - £360.
  • Beautifully wrapped Hampers - £144.
  • General Raffle - £197. I still have some unclaimed prizes!
  • Tombola - £156. Any bottles left will be in the next raffle!!
  • Sock Dip - £107. I hope the winners have worn them. Sadly, I didn’t win any.
  • Auction - £320. Christine has yet to drink the wine, despite many offers of help.
Once again, thank you to everyone for their generous contributions of time and money.

After the excitement of Charity Day it was down to some serious golf.  The 2015 Ladies’ Club Championship was won by Virginia Chan and the Angela Chatterton Handicap Trophy was won by Angela herself.  This was amazingly a repeat of last year!  We had a good turnout of Ladies and some great scores.

The Jubilee Jug was won by Denise Clinch and Jean Pierce.  The Megan Bonner Par 3 Championship was won by Madeline Fielder. This was played for the first time and proved to be a real test, particularly the putting. Everyone enjoyed the competition and the scones and cream afterwards.

Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to all the ladies for taking part in these competitions.

Coming soon we have the Palmer Cup v the Senior Men on Wednesday 12th August.  The Price Vase is on 13th August.

The Solheim Cup v Mill Green, played at Chesfield on Friday 18th September, is sure to be a fantastic day so please come and support our team who are representing the USA.

Jo Wilson and her son Jack are organising a 9 hole competition to raise money for Prostate Cancer on Saturday 19th September. All are welcome.  Thursday 24th September is the Autumn Meeting when we play for the Chris Leary Chalice. This will be a non-qualifying competition.

Captains’ Day and Evening takes place on Saturday 26th September.  I hope as many of you as possible will come and support this. It should be a fantastic day, with golf in the morning and a three course meal and dancing to Ever Gold, an Abba tribute band, in the evening.

In addition to all of this there will be Friendly Matches and Scratch Matches taking place.

As the next few weeks are going to be very busy please make sure that you check all the noticeboards regularly.

Thank you.
